Investors Resigned to Losses?

August 8, 2011

When I see an article like this one, I imagine lots of people looking at their investment statements, 401(k) investments, IRAs, and other holdings while shaking their heads.  Retirement looks further away, kids’ college educations look more expensive, and that mortgage feels more oppressive.  Everyday folks need to worry about finances, and when the market slides like it did today, a (hopefully) small part of those finances probably disappeared.

But sometimes, the reasons behind those losses are more sinister than a “market downturn.”  Sometimes, your broker’s recommendations or a company’s misstatements caused those losses.  Days like today should remind you that you may have options in recovering your investments.
